Cable World - EchoStar, DirecTV Add Spin to Pitches October 21, 2002
"...These strong advertising efforts seem to counter the FCC's conclusion that the merger is anticompetitive, said Barbara Roehrig, president of the marketing consulting firm B.G. Marketing. "My first thought was that the FCC was wrong with the merger." Roehrig said after she saw the spots. "It shows they are putting big bucks behind competing with cable." One of DirecTV's spots features a cable employee discreetly ordering satellite, asking the installer to bring the dish in the back of the house so he can't be marked as a traitor. "People love funny, and people love digs at the incumbent." Roehrig said.
